It’s time to kick off the National Football League regular season: On September 9, our own San Diego Chargers host the Houston Texans at Qualcomm Stadium.
As a guest at the Sofia Hotel, you’re well-positioned to experience the gridiron drama firsthand. We’re just a few blocks from the Santa Fe Depot Station, where you can hop on the San Diego Trolley’s Green Line, cruise in style over to the stadium and avoid the parking fees.
Quarterback Philip Rivers (who helped the team make the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots in 2007) will do his best to lead the “Bolts” to victory against Matt Schaub and the Texans in this hotly anticipated season opener. In the preseason, the Chargers lost their first two games against the Seattle Seahawks and the Chicago Bears before clinching a convincing 24-7 victory against the Arizona Cardinals on August 24. On August 29, their final exhibition matchup before the regular season ended with a 41-6 loss to their in-state rivals the San Francisco 49ers.
The Texans, meanwhile, dominated the Minnesota Vikings and the Miami Dolphins in the opening games of the preseason, and then lost on August 25 to the New Orleans Saints. On August 29, they finished up beating the Dallas Cowboys 24-6 in a preseason finale.
The Sofia to the Qualcomm? No Problem!
Ready to enjoy the action firsthand? Jump on the trolley to Qualcomm Stadium which is just a few blocks from the Sofia Hotel. The Green Line sweeps you from the Santa Fe Depot Station—just a quarter-mile from the hotel—to the Fenton Parkway Station, which is a quick walk from the stadium.
The action goes down at 7:20 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on the 9th. It’ll be quite a show, and, as a Sofia guest, you’ll have quite the comfortable, elegant, and historic accommodations to return to afterward.
