All February, 40 Museums In San Diego Are Half-Off Admission
February 4th, 2014|SofiaBlog

San Diego Natural History MuseumFebruary is a particularly edifying time to be in San Diego. Why, you ask? Because it’s Museum Month, of course!

This annual promotion, supported by Macy’s, allows you to get in to an impressive 44 area museums and related institutions at half-price. Staying at the Sofia Hotel, you’re an easy trip from many of these precious educational centers, which between them illuminate a vast swath of San Diego’s historical, cultural, artistic, and natural heritage.

The Basics

The San Diego Museum Council launched Museum Month way back in 1989, and the event is running as strong as ever. To take advantage of this unbeatable deal, stop at a Macy’s location in town and pick up a Museum Month pass. That’ll get you and as many as three other visitors admission into the participating locations at half the normal price.

Because the pass works for the whole month of February, you’ll have time to visit as many of the museums as you wish.

A Rich Variety

San Diego’s museums, historic sites, and educational centers encompass a spectacular range of subject matter. Whatever you’re interested in, you’ll find fascinating exhibits and programs to deepen your appreciation of our beautiful region.

Are you a surfing aficionado? You’ll love the California Surf Museum in Oceanside, which celebrates the Golden State’s famous infatuation with the surfboard.

Immerse yourself in a stunningly beautiful micro-universe at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, where you’ll marvel at the authentic landscaping and explore the deep bond between San Diego and its sister city of Yokohama.

Also in Balboa Park is the grand San Diego Natural History Museum, an all-ages destination that’ll introduce you to everything from towering dinosaurs to Southern California’s unique native flora. This Museum Month, you’ll be able to enjoy such special exhibitions as “Ecosystems of San Diego County,” showcasing breathtaking photographs of the area’s natural landscapes, and “Skulls,” which offers a one-of-a-kind, up-close look at almost 200 different animal skulls.
