Craft Beer Tasting San Diego

San Diego is a heavyweight when it comes to great craft beer: Our region isn’t just renowned in the country, but around the world. And the premier event for celebrating this prestige—and the brewmasters and beer-lovers behind it—is close at hand: San Diego Beer Week, running from November 7 through the 16th at a variety of locations around town.

We’ll give you a comfy bed and an elegantly laidback atmosphere here at the Sofia Hotel while you enjoy the suds. It’s easy to reach Beer Week’s big events from our doorstep—some are just a quick stroll away!

Great Beer From San Diego & Beyond

San Diego claims nearly 100 breweries, and our homegrown beers have performed admirably in international festivals. In fact, in 2010, San Diego’s beers earned more awards at the World Beer Cup than Belgium, England, and Germany (traditional European brewing heavyweights) combined!

You’ll be able to sample more stouts, ambers, IPAs, sours, red ales, and other beer styles than you can imagine during Beer Week’s 10 fun-filled days.

There’ll be lots of San Diego-brewed libations from beer-making legends like Stone, Ballast Point, and Green Flash. Many others hail from California at large, such as Chico’s Sierra Nevada Brewing. Then there are the offerings from farther afield, from Delaware’s iconic Dogfish Head Brewery to Belgium’s Huyghe Brewery, which turns out the famous Delirium beers.

Exciting Events for the Beer Connoisseur

San Diego Beer Week is loaded up with fantastic events. At OB Noodle House in Ocean Beach, there’ll be plenty of special beer nights spotlighting particular breweries: Ninkasi (out of Oregon) on November 9, for example, and Ironfire Brewery (a Southern California stalwart) on November 14.

You’ll also get the opportunity to meet some of these elite brewmasters while sampling their creations. Ballast Point’s James Murray, for instance, will be curating a tasting of the brewery’s Schooner Wet Hop Ale and Victory at Sea Imperial Porter on November 12 at McGregor’s Grill and Alehouse.

One of the highlights of Beer Week is its kickoff: the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival. Scores of local beers will be available for a whirlwind tour of San Diego County’s brewing heritage, all of it going down at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier. That’s almost next door to the Sofia!
