Gaslamp Quarter San Diego

Even if the scientists can’t exactly quantify it, we all know deep down that laughter’s good for you.

Fortunately, as a guest at the Sofia Hotel, you can walk to one of the country’s major centers of laughter: The American Comedy Co., which modestly calls itself “the greatest comedy club in the country.”

As usual, the club’s summer calendar is chock full of outstanding comedians—so stroll on down to the historic Gaslamp Quarter and take in some of the side-splitting action going down on that anything-goes stage!

A Lively Lineup

Whenever you happen to be staying with us at the Sofia, there’s good stuff happening on the American Comedy Co. stage. There are comedy legends such as Judah Friedlander—perhaps best-known for his oafish role on Tina Fey’s now-classic NBC sitcom 30 Rock, but also a standup veteran—who’ll headline from July 24 through the 26th. Adam Carolla, meanwhile, will be hosting his celebrated podcast at the club on August 6.

You’ll also have wonderful opportunities to check out adventurous and hungry up-and-comers, as in the regular Breakout Artist Series, which’ll feature comedians like Kris Tinkle (July 13) and Sara Schaefer (August 17). Here’s your chance to see a real star on the rise in person!

It’s also a blast to attend the weekly Gaslamp Open Mic, where you can watch standup artists work on an essential part of their craft: trying out material.

An Afternoon or Evening Out

The Sofia Hotel is just minutes from the American Comedy Co. doorstep in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, which is a destination unto itself what with its shopping, dining, and architectural delights.

Take in an afternoon or evening show at this lively comedy club: A table at the Currant American Brasserie—or your plush bed—will be waiting at the Sofia when you get back!
